SAFA Cup: Eight teams seal grand final berths

Kota Kinabalu: Eight teams have booked their places in the grand finals of the Safa (Sabah Football Association) Cup football tournament to be held here from January 25-27.
A total of 21 teams from six zones were earlier involved in the tournament held over the weekend and the top two teams from each zone will progress to the finals.
ADVERTISEMENT However, only four zones managed to complete their tournaments and the teams that have qualified are Putatan, Penampang (west coast); Nabawan, Keningau (upper interior); Kinabatangan, Tongod (Sandakan) and Kunak, Tawau (Tawau).
The final standing of the lower interior zone involving Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang will only be known on January 21 after the last match between host Beaufort and Sipitang was postponed on Sunday.

The final results of the north west coast zone held in Kota Marudu was also put on hold as only two matches were completed so far, with Kota Marudu beating Kudat 4-1 and Kota Belud defeating Pitas 6-3.
ADVERTISEMENT The remaining matches between Kudat and Pitas, Kota Maruda and Kota Belud will be held in the morning on January 20 while the ties featuring Kota Marudu and Pitas, Kota Belud and Kudat will be played in the afternoon.
Safa secretary general Shamsuddin Mohd Shah when contacted said both tournaments were interrupted as a result of bad weather in the two districts.
