Razed clinic in Beluran: Dept to seek emergency procurement
State Health Director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna
SANDAKAN: The State Health Department (JKNS) will apply for allocation to carry out emergency procurement to rebuild the Tangkarason Health Clinic in Beluran, which was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning.

The Health Ministry, in a statement Saturday, said the emergency procurement includes the replacement of equipment lost in the fire to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for residents in the area.

“The State Health Director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna, together with senior officers from the JKNS, conducted an on-site assessment on the day of the incident.

“Several follow-up actions have been taken, including the temporary relocation of clinic operations to the Kampung Tangkarason Multipurpose Hall starting Feb 19 (Monday),” it said.

In addition, supplies of medications, disposables and medical equipment have been acquired.

On Thursday, it was reported that in the incident around 1am, firemen from the Beluran Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the scene located 215km away.

Upon arrival, they discovered the clinic and staff quarters completely destroyed by the fire, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Meanwhile, JKNS denied any connection with the ongoing donation campaign for the Tangkarason Health Clinic on social media.

JKNS Director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna asserted that the donation campaign was not under the direction or management of the Department.

“The department is always committed to ensuring that health services are accessible to the public at all times.

“In connection with that, the clinic’s operational services have been temporarily moved to the Kampung Tangkarason Multipurpose Hall and will start operating on Monday (Feb 19).

“JKNS together with the Ministry of Health will ensure the welfare of the health personnel involved is always taken care of,” he said in a statement, Saturday.

He said donations were given to two staff whose quarters were involved in the fire to ease their burdens.

“They have been placed in a nearby homestay and have also been given Psychological First Aid (PFA) support,” he added.
