Floods: RM51,000 government aid to 51 Nabawan family heads

NABAWAN: The government provided RM51,000 in financial assistance to 51 family heads affected by flooding in Kg Salarom Baru here.
According to Nabawan District Welfare Officer Andy Fathmal Mohamad Ikhsan, each family head received RM1,000 deposited into their bank accounts.

He said that floodwaters ruined their homes and crops on two consecutive days on March 30 and 31.
He said the aid was distributed by the record kept by the District Social Welfare Department and affiliated agencies at the village church, which had been converted into a temporary flood relief shelter.
Kg Salarom Baru Village Chief Lumambai Antawor expressed gratitude to the government for the financial assistance.
“The financial aid will ease our expenses for the year-end which happens to be the time we celebrate Christmas and prepare for our children’s back-to-school sessions,” he said.

He also thanked all government departments and agencies for the initial distribution of meals and cleaning their flood-damaged homes during their stay at the shelter.
“We are also grateful to Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin and Pensiangan Member of Parliament Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup for providing us with food and other necessities during the initial stage,” he said.

He also complimented Nabawan District Officer Peter Jiton for his persistent efforts in coordinating all of the relief, particularly the application for financial support.
