Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s SEA Games esport silver medallist Mohammad Irwandy Lim will represent the State at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024.

Sabah Electronical Sports Association (Persues) President Chucky Cheoh said the Association is pleased to have Irwandy, better known as Izanami, as the State representative.

“We are very hopeful that we will produce the first-ever Sukma esport medal for Sabah,” he said in a statement, recently.

“The Association also plans to hold a public livestreaming watch party during the Sukma tournaments.”

Counting down to less than a year for Sukma, he said the player selection is happening at both the Sabah Games (Saga) and the recent Big Sabah Sale event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The esports titles in Sukma are eRacing, Mobile Legend, PUBGM, Tekken and eFootball.

Meanwhile, four local esports athletes were recently awarded a total cash incentive of RM6,000 at the State Recognition Programme for outstanding achievement of grabbing a silver medal and two bronze medals earlier this year at the Sea Games in Cambodia.

The athletes were Irwandy, Vanessa Natasha Abdullah, Nadzrul Abdul Sagal, and Mohd Irzam Aman Mohd Zaini.

“Some players are currently contracted with RSG and Geek Fam, which are the top-tier esports organisations in the Southeast Asian region,” he said.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor presented the awards. Also present were State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin and Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Fairuz Renddan.
