Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Kyra Vamsikrish has won a silver medal in the girls singles Under-16 category at the Masters TennisMalaysia 2023 held at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur from December 9-13.

The 16-year-old, who was seeded second in the tournament, was beaten by top seed Alyssa Wong from Penang Kyra 6(3)-7, 0- 6 in the final.

She had earlier topped the group stage before beating Hana Mohd Sahi 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-final.

Despite the loss, Kyra said she was proud of her performance and thanked Sabah Sports Council, her coaches and her family for their support.

“It was an amazing experience to reach the final of such a big tournament. I learned a lot from playing against all these players. I hope to improve my game and achieve more success in the future,” she said.

Kyra is currently training in Mouratoglou Tennis Academy Malaysia at the Epsom International School, Negeri Sembilan while pursuing her A-Levels.

The Mouratoglou Tennis Programme is a direct extension of the flagship Tennis and School programme at the Mouratoglou Academy in Biot, France.

Meanwhile, Sabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh said they are very proud of Kyra’s achievement and added that she is bound for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak next year.
