Sabah China Chambers of Commerce Women Entrepreneur Committee call on IDS

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah China Chambers of Commerce Women Entrepreneur Committee (SCCCWE) paid a courtesy call to the Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) at Wisma IDS on 18th May 2022.

IDS Chairperson, Datuk Adeline Leong welcomed the SCCCWE delegates led by Mdm. Tan Siew Ling, Chairlady.

Mdm Tan Siew Ling expressed that the visit was to outline a possible collaboration with IDS in expanding SCCCWE links and networks towards the Asean region in promoting Sabah’s women entrepreneurs.

According to Mdm. Tan, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the bilateral relationship between Sabah and China significantly, hence a need to shift the focus to the State’s neighbouring region.

By the latest actual performance for September 2025, the total anticipated contract value awarded to Sabahan companies hit RM1.7 billion.
Datuk Adeline welcomed the delegation’s interests in future collaborations, highlighting the importance of establishing a close relation with the Asean region with the preparations of Indonesia’s capital move to Kalimantan.

“It is in Sabah’s best interest for us to strategise and build our networks in order to anticipate the economic growth brought on by Indonesia’s capital move,” she further elaborated.

Food security and digital marketing was also discussed during the meeting. 

Also present from SCCCWE were Mdm. Dora Mok, Vice Chairlady, Teo Manyee, Secretary, and committee members, Chin Hui Zhi, Nice Chu, Jevi Liew and Sharon Yap. IDS Management in attendance were Senior Associate Director, Richard T. Koh, Associate Directors, Hajah Hasnah Samsudin and Azaharuddin Hassanuddin, and PR Officer, Kamilia Kamaruzaman.
