Evacuation in parts of Sandakan

SANDAKAN: Several villagers had to be evacuated following intermittent rain throughout Monday that caused flash floods in several low-lying areas here and in Beluran, Tuesday.
In Sandakan, the areas comprised Jalan Lintas Batu Sapi, SMK Batu Sapi and several other areas.

In Kampung Pertanian Garinono, Mile 25, here, a total of 23 villagers, comprising a baby girl, 13 men and nine women, had to be temporarily relocated to Masjid Nurul Iman after flash floods hit their village.
Sandakan Zone Fire and Rescue Chief Anddree Andrew said a 6.57am distress call prompted 18 officers and personnel from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department to the scene located some 34 kilometres away.
The operation was led by Nor Azizi Che Noh, Hairi Otuh and Johny Yap.
Anddre said they also monitored areas in Taman Poh Hing, Jalan Batu Sapi and SK Gas Sandakan, adding that they will continue to do so until the water starts to recede.

Works to clear the roads were also done by the Public Works Department concessionaire following landslide at Jalan Batu Sapi.
The landslide caused no injury and neither did it affect any houses.

Meanwhile, those from the Civil Defence Force also deployed their team to monitor the situation here.
Sandakan Civil Defence Force Officer Lieutenant Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel said some 20 personnel rushed to Kampung Pertanian Garinono and Kampung Memanjang here following a distress call.
In BELURAN, fire and rescue personnel rescued five flood victims, including two women, from two houses affected by the floods at Kampung Sungai Memanjang.
A 6.10am distress call prompted a four-man team from Beluran Fire and Rescue station to scene located about 25 kilometres away.

The team brought the victims to safety with the use of a rope as the water level started to rise at that time.
The operation ended at about 10.30am.
