Perak MB Ahmad Faizal 'still standing'
Ipoh: The Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting this time adjourned with Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu still the state's menteri besar. This ended the rife speculation of a plot to topple his leadership through a vote of no-confidence against him at the sitting.

In fact, Ahmad Faizal had two events to attend here, opening a seminar for councillors of the local authorities in Perak and attending the Lembaga Air Perak board of directors' meeting.

While the opposition was busy claiming the existence of a plot to topple Ahmad Faizal, who is also Chenderiang assemblyman, the 48-year-old did not appear unnerved but remained his usual cheerful self when facing the media.

Each time asked by the media on the plot supposedly to topple him, his response was positive, including stating that his relations with all the state executive councillors were good, like in a one big, happy family.

On one of these occasions when posed the same question, Ahmad Faizal spontaneously belted out Elton John's "I'm Still Standing", indicating his confidence that tabling of the said motion of no-confidence against him would not happen.

Claims that a number of state exco members were out to topple the menteri besar through a vote of non-confidence at the state assembly sitting this time, had been raised by state opposition leader, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, who is also Perak Umno liaison chief.

Saarani made the statement after a meeting between Umno Malaysia leaders led by the party president and Perak Umno leaders in Sungai Siput on Nov 25.

Saarani, who is also Kota Tampan assemblyman, said the state executive councillors involved were persuading at least five Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to support the no-confidence motion if tabled at the state assembly sitting.

At a press conference, Saarani even claimed that he had proof from the Umno assemblymen who had personally been

approached by state exco member in charge of Education, Technology, Science and Environment, Dr Abdul Aziz Bari.

Abdul Aziz, who is also Tebing Tinggi assemblyman and Perak DAP vice-chairman immediately denied Saarani's allegation and described it as cheap political ploy.

In the 14th General Election, Perak Pakatan Harapan comprising DAP, Amanah and Bersatu won 29 seats which were less than 31 needed for a simple majority to form the state government.

However, BN assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik) then chose to join Bersatu, while Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Tualang Sekah) decided to become an Independent but supporting PH, thus enabling PH to form the state government.

The Perak State Legislative Assembly currently comprises PH with DAP having 18 seats, Amanah (6), PKR (4), Bersatu (2), as well as BN (25), PAS (3) and Independent (1).
