SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will take stern action against traders for failing to display price tags on items for sale.

Sandakan KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy Zukkry John said items without price tags could lead to confusion among consumers.

“Traders in the district are urged to ensure that price tags are prominently displayed on each item for sale.

“It is the responsibility of dealers to affix legal price tags, a practice that has been in place since 1946.

“We hope to see no further instances of traders forgetting or intentionally neglecting to display price tags,” he said during a price tag and weighing device inspection operation at Pasar Sibuga Jaya on Tuesday.

Azdy advised traders to ensure that every weighing device used had been properly verified.

He said inspections aimed at raising awareness about the importance of displaying price tags and using verified weighing instruments would be conducted in all markets throughout the district.

“This initial inspection aims to raise awareness and provide guidance on displaying price tags. However, after seven days, we will conduct a follow-up inspection.

“During subsequent inspections, strict action will be taken against traders for not complying with the instruction to display price tags,” he said.

He also welcomed users to act as eyes and ears to KPDN by channeling complaints through official complaint channels such as Whatassp 019 279 4317 / 019 848 8000, Complaints portal: http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my or call center 1 800 886 800.
