Astam clinch Under-11 title

Kota Kinabalu: Indonesian side Astam SS proved too strong for MMT Junior as they beat the Keningau side 2-0 in the final to take the Malaysia Borneo Football Cup Under-11 crown at the Likas Stadium, Tuesday.Despite fielding mostly Under-10 players as their 11-year-olds are currently involved in the UPSR examination, MMT put up a very strong fight before going down to their physically much stronger opponents with a goal from each half.In the third place play-off, FC Kuala Lumpur edged Australian side ST George City 3-1 to take the third spot.

Another foreign team, JP Voltes from the Philippines also won their match against Tab Menggatal 2-0 to finish in fifth spot while Claret School, also from the Philippines thrashed Burnsmark United 6-1 to claim the seventh place.Meanwhile, the Under-12 started on Tuesday at the Penampang Stadium saw SBAI from Indonesia netting 13 goals without conceding in their opening two matches.The opening match saw them score six goals past Northern Inland from Australia before ending the day with a 7-0 win over MMT Junior to top the table standing with six points.Second place went to Dreaming Football from the Philippines who beat Tunku Putra FC 3-0 and drew 1-1 with Northern Inland to finish in second spot with four points.

In the other matches, MMT Junior defeated SK Melawa 2-1 and SK Malawa drew 4-4 with Tunku Putra.MMT with the three points ended the day in third place while Northern Inland, SK Malaw and Tunku Putra all have one point each. - GL Oh
