Cops destroy drugs worth RM2.5m

Sandakan: The Sabah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department destroyed 23,338.47 gm of various types of drugs valued at RM2,500,206.47, Thursday.

District Police Chief, ACP Azhar Mohd Hamin said the seized drugs were confiscated from cases between 1998 and 2017 which involved 7,715 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act.

"The disposal of drugs involved cases that have been settled in court in 20 districts around Sabah and it was the first this year. " It is aimed at providing storage space to new cases.

"Moreover, this disposal is to avoid harmful effects to policemen who handle the substances in storage," he said.

The drugs disposed of comprised 14,553.34 gm methamphetamine, 14.45gm heroin, 171.95gm ketamine, 14.19gm eramin, 3,120.74gm cannabis and 5,464gm of other substances. - Winnie Kasmir
