Setting up of eagles Rugby Academy a landmark achievement

Sandakan: The establishment of the Sir Gordon Tietjens Eagles Rugby Academy is a landmark achievement in Asia.Asia Rugby president Aga Hussain said the facility is the first fully dedicated rugby academy in Asia. "When Vela Tan (Eagles Rugby Club president) called me and told me that he has been working on the academy and it will be opened soon, there was no second thought on my mind...Asia Rugby has to be here," he said, during the academy's launching at the Eagles Sports Arena, here, Thursday.

"There is no way Asia Rugby cannot be here as this is a landmark achievement in Asia, and we are proud to be part of it."He added such excellent feat cannot be achieved easily."It took him many years to plan and executing something like this is not easy."But, today (Wednesday), Vela has proven that if you are able to set up an academy here, you can establish the same academy anywhere in Asia. "And I will talk to my colleagues and encourage others to set up such academies," he said.

Meanwhile, Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) President Datuk James Wong said the academy will further contribute towards the progress of the district.
