Abdul Rashid’s contributions to the rugby community extend beyond local and national boundaries. Since 2015, he has been at the forefront of the Labuan Rugby Association, fostering a culture of excellence and participation.
LABUAN: Labuan Rugby Association (LRA) president Abdul Rashid Adlie has expressed his readiness to shoulder the significant responsibility of leading the Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU). However, he said he would not lobby for the highest post within the MRU.

“Rugby is my passion, I myself was a rugby player representing Black Hawk Royal Malaysian Airforce team for many national and international event.

“Leading the Malaysia Rugby is a tough job indeed, with a lot of passion and commitment, I will not campaign for the position, but if given the responsibility, I must be prepared in the interest of Malaysian rugby,” he said.

The MRU honorary secretary in a statement on Nov 2 said Abdul Rashid, along with two other candidates, is nominated for the presidential post of the MRU, which became vacant following the decision of Datuk Sharul Zaman Yahya not to seek re-election.

The other two nominees vying for the prestigious position include Kuala Lumpur Rugby president Datuk Seri Zainal Rafique and Terengganu Rugby president Amir Amri Muhammad.

Abdul Rashid’s reputation in the rugby sports is well-established, with a track record of dedicated service and significant achievements in the Federal Territories.

Among his notable accomplishments is the elevation of the Federal Territory rugby team to one of the best in the nation.

He has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of rugby in the region, contributing to the development of the sport at the grassroots level and beyond.

Under his leadership, Labuan and Federal Territory rugby team players have had the opportunity to represent Malaysia on the international stage in various championships, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Abdul Rashid Adlie was entrusted by the MRU to lead the Malaysia rugby team in the Sevens Asia Rugby 2023 tournament in Kathmandu, Nepal, middle of this year.

His involvement in this prestigious event underscored his commitment to the growth and promotion of rugby in Malaysia on a global scale.

The upcoming annual general meeting of the Malaysia Rugby Union, scheduled for December, will be a critical juncture for the organisation.

During this meeting, the future leadership of the MRU for the term 2023-2027 will be decided.

Rugby enthusiasts, players, and officials across Malaysia will be eagerly watching the proceedings, as they look to the incoming leadership to continue the positive momentum and development of the sport in the country.
