Minor quake jolts Ranau

Ranau: Residents here were jolted by a low magnitude tremor measuring 3.1 on the Richter Scale Thursday night.

In the 8.13pm incident, the epicentre was at latitude 6.0 degrees north and 116.6 degrees east, about 11 kilometres west of Ranau at a depth of five kilometres.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jimmy Lagung said he did not receive any distress call from the public over the incident.

Tremors following the 2015 earthquake that killed 18 climbers, including four mountain guides, have been rare in the past several months and the incident on Thursday was the first in 2018. – Clarence George Dol
