Drink-driving: Nine caught

Kota Kinabalu: Numerous warnings, public awareness campaigns and education programmes have been carried out but many people still get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Out of 31 people who took the alcohol breathalyser test, nine were found to have exceeded the allowed alcohol limit in the latest "Ops Samseng Jalanan" and "Ops Mabuk" conducted by police along several routes in the city, Saturday. The operations, which involved one officer and 16 traffic policemen and women, also saw a total of 13 summonses issued for various traffic offences. The Mobile Compound Online Payment System (MCOPS) was also used to conduct thorough inspections on 161 people and 151 vehicles.

The operation ended about 5am with focus on routes along Jalan Coastal, Jalan Tuaran By-pass, Jalan Kepayan and 1Borneo. City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said enforcement will be done continuously to prevent road menace and drink-drivers from getting behind the wheels. - Sherell Jeffrey
