BONGAWAN: Nine houses were destroyed while two were saved from a fire at Kg Laut Bongawan.
Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Johainin Ruslan said the station received a distress call at 12.02pm, Monday and deployed water tankers to the scene.

“The fire and rescue teams from Papar, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu each dispatched a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS).
“Most of them used water from the water tanker.
“The wildfire destroyed nine houses, nevertheless, the fire and rescue teams managed to save two from being razed,” he said.
Mohd Johainin said no casualties were reported in the incident.

“The cause of the fire and the total loss are still under investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Beaufort Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said there was a forest fire at 2.20am on the same day at Kg Lumat.

“18 acres were on fire, surrounding area was covered with smoke,” he said.
A day before, the fire and rescue team also received a fire call at Sungai Damit in the Membakut at 6.21pm.
Two water tankers – LFRT and EMRS – were used.
The size of the fire is about 10 acres which involved an area overgrown with grass.
