2 shocked to death while installing electric pole

Ranau: Two local co-workers were killed while installing an electric pole, here, Tuesday morning.The duo from Kg Kologon Bundu Tuhan, identified as Roby Semudin, 32, and Ray O Neil Riched, 23, died at the scene following the 10.30am incident near Kg Kinasaraban Kundasang. Ranau District Police Chief DSP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah (pic) said the case was classified as sudden death.

According to him, the duo were working with four other colleagues to set up an electric pole at the edge of the main road in Kg Kinasaraban Kundasang using a lorry crane when the incident took place. "Three people were assigned to control the bottom end of the electric pole to be inserted into the hole on the ground when the crane lifting the pole suddenly touched a live electric wire which resulted in three people holding the end of the pole to be thrown. "The third victim, Perimus Arinus Selimin, a 23-year-old Dusun man, fainted but regained consciousness a few minutes later before he was rushed to the Kundasang Health Clinic. "The other two did not regain consciousness and were taken to the same clinic where doctors pronounced them dead," he said.

He said several colleagues who witnessed the incident tried to help the victims, adding the duo were rushed to the Kundasang Health Clinic on a lorry. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Post mortem results showed Roby Semudin sustained slight injuries to his left arm due to electric shock, while Ray O Neil suffered injuries to his left and right palms also due to electric shock," he said, adding that post mortem showed their death was due to cardiac arrest secondary to electrocution.

He said both victims worked with a private company as electric pole planters, adding the families of the two bachelors have been contacted for identification. - Clarence George Dol
