PETALING JAYA: A set of digital safety guidelines for online games like Roblox will soon be introduced to protect children, the Malaysian Esports Federation said today.

MESF president Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said this was among several measures agreed upon at a meeting with youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh and representatives from Roblox yesterday.

He said the discussions revolved around growing concerns about children being exposed to online predators, cyberbullying, gaming addiction, exploitation, and inappropriate content due to a lack of parental supervision.

“We will be issuing suitable digital safety guidelines, including for Roblox, and rolling out awareness programmes to tackle these issues in a coordinated manner,” he told FMT.

Naim said MESF and industry stakeholders would also issue clarifications on game suitability based on age categories to help parents and guardians better understand safe gaming limits.

Even though some video games did not fall under the esports category, he said, MESF was still playing a key role in helping reduce unhealthy behaviour and risk among young players.
