Socks issue: Technician now claims trial over FB post
Chiok Wai Loong was charged with posting the offensive remarks on Facebook with the intention to annoy or harass others.
PETALING JAYA: A technician has now pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today over an allegedly offensive Facebook post on the “Allah” socks issue.

Chiok Wai Loong was charged again under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act with posting the offensive remarks with the intention to annoy or harass others.

If found guilty, he could face a fine of up to RM50,000 or a maximum one year jail term.

Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali granted Chiok bail of RM5,000 in one surety.

She did not impose an additional condition for Chiok to report to the police every month as requested by deputy public prosecutor Kalmizah Salleh.

The court fixed May 23 for the next mention date.

Lawyer Latheefa Koya appeared for Chiok.

Earlier today, the High Court quashed Chiok’s conviction and six-month jail sentence over the impugned Facebook post, holding that the sessions court did not observe proper practice when recording his guilty plea.

Justice Ahmad Bache also ordered Chiok, 35, to be charged again.
