Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said commitment is the key to creating history by winning the MFL Cup title this season.

This is the CM’s advice to the state under-23 football team during a Hari Raya open house hosted by the under-23 squad team manager Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali in Tuaran on Thursday.

“There are no excuses for them not to achieve the target set by the management.

“I understand that the Sabah FC U23 MFL Team consist of very talented, disciplined players and they are committed in every training session.

“The management is also confident that if they can maintain their focus, it is not impossible for them to achieve the best position in the league table this season,” he said.

He also pointed out the commitment of the coaching team plays an important role to ensure they meet the top five finish set by the management announced by Sabah FC’s Director Mohd Joh Wid recently.

“The players need to have fighting spirit when playing against their opponents. Don’t give up as long as you are on the field and don’t be afraid to face the opponents.

“The management and myself will always provide moral support and ensure that the Sabah Maju Jaya name can achieve success in the league,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kassim Razali expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Chief Minister at the open house.

He hoped his pep talks would motivate the team to do well in the league scheduled to start next month.

“There is no doubt that the Chief Minister’s words of encouragement and support mean a lot to this team.

“Hopefully, it will motivate these young players to take more aggressive steps to grasp success in the future,” he said.

The team this season will be represented by 24 players with 17 having already signed their contracts last week.

They will be coached by Johnny Dominicus with Vun Kit Ming @ Billyton and Razlan Oto as assistant coaches, while the goalkeeper coach is  Rozaimie Rohim.
