Kota Kinabalu: AirAsia’s AK 9644 flew 186 people on its inaugural late-night fixed-fare flight to Miri, Sarawak, for the Hari Raya celebration.

Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook and AirAsia Aviation Group Chief Executive Officer Bo Lingam led a special ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 to send off all of the flight’s guests on Friday.

The Minister inaugurated the special extra flights at fixed prices initiative on March 4 offering a total of 22,000 seats from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru to 11 East Malaysian locations for RM298 to Sarawak and RM348 to Sabah all-in one-way.

“We are pleased to facilitate affordable balik kampung fares for the rakyat with AirAsia’s fixed fare flights, launched last month,” said Loke.

“Thanks to their commitment, thousands of Malaysians including all 186 passengers tonight have been able to fly home affordably to Sarawak and Sabah,” he said.

He said the government would continue to work hand-in-hand with industry players to improve the efficiency and affordability of our public transportation for Malaysians.

“We wish everyone safe travels this festive season,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lingam expressed how delighted they are to send off the first of their 122 special extra flights at fixed fares for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

“As the people’s airline, this initiative is a testament to our commitment to ensuring affordable fares for our guests during this joyous occasion.

“The Hari Raya festive season is one of our busiest periods with more than 500 flights daily in operations across all our hubs and we will continue to work hard to fly our guests, home safely.

“We thank our All-stars for their dedication, especially those who will be working during the festive period and our guests for flying with us. Selamat Hari Raya from all of us at AirAsia,” said Lingam.

Guests flying during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period are encouraged to self-check-in using the AirAsia Move  app (previously known as the AirAsia Superapp), which is available as early as 14 days before the departure date, and board the flight using the e-Boarding Pass.

To improve their travel experience, visitors should enrol their details for Faces on the AirAsia Move app, which allows them to skip through pre-security and board the flight without producing their boarding pass and identification.

Due to the high passenger volume during the forthcoming holiday season, passengers should plan ahead and arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure time for domestic flights.

All customers are permitted to bring onboard a maximum of two cabin bags weighing a total of seven kilogrammes, and it is recommended that they purchase sufficient luggage allowance in advance for the best value.
