Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) has seen significant flight disruptions because of a volcanic ash eruption, according to KKIA Senior Airport Manager Jefry Ramli.
"We have received notifications from several airlines about flight cancellations and rescheduling as a result of the volcanic ash in the airspace," said Jefry in a statement, here, Thursday.

"The safety of our passengers is the top priority, so we are working closely with the airlines to ensure they can make the best decisions regarding their operations,” he said.
Jefry revealed that a total of 12 flights to and from KKIA had to be cancelled, while five were rescheduled.
"This is a significant disruption, with over a dozen flights cancelled and 5 more rescheduled.
"We understand the inconvenience this will cause for passengers, and we are doing everything we can to support the airlines and ensure the safety of air travel,” he said.

Jefry said that the airlines are ultimately responsible for managing their own schedules and making decisions about flight changes. He advised passengers to contact their airlines directly for the most up-to-date information on the status of their specific flights.
"The airlines have the final say on any cancellations or rescheduling," Jefry said.

"We urge passengers to check with their airline for the latest updates, and to plan accordingly for potential delays or disruptions to their travel plans."
KKIA is closely monitoring the situation and working closely with the airlines to mitigate the impact of the volcanic ash on flight operations.

- AK6261 from Tawau (TWU) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 11:15 AM
- AK6267 from Tawau (TWU) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 2:15 PM
- AK6265 from Tawau (TWU) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 3:50 PM
- MH7404 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 9:55 AM
- MH2612 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 10:45 AM
- MH2610 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) with an estimated arrival time of 11:55 AM
The cancelled departure flights include:
- AK6268 from Kota Kinabalu (BKI) to Tawau (TWU) with an estimated departure time of 6:25 AM
