Three killed and five injured in Kunak crash

KUNAK: Three people died in an accident involving a Proton Iswara and an Isuzu Dmax four-wheel drive near Ladang Giram along Jalan Kunak-Tawau, here, Saturday afternoon.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said he received the emergency call at 3.20pm via the MERS999 line.

A team of members led by Operations Commander Oma Tome on a fire engine and EMRS ambulance went to the scene about 16km from the fire station.
Fire engines arrived at the scene at 3.40pm.
Health workers confirmed that the three people who were riding the Proton Iswara died at the scene of the incident.
The three who died included two men aged 30 and 41, while a 74-year-old woman also died in the accident. The deceased were handed over to the police for further action.

In the meantime, three people in the Isuzu D-Max were also injured, while two other riders and a motorcycle passenger who were also involved in the accident were also injured.
Firemen used special equipment to remove the trapped victim from the vehicle.

“Three people who suffered injuries in the Isuzu D-Max and the rider and passenger of the motorcycle were given initial treatment by firemen and Ministry of Health paramedics team.
“They were sent to the hospital using the Kunak Hospital Ambulance and the FRD EMRS Ambulance.
“Operations ended at 4.50 pm after there was no more danger,” he said.
