PENAMPANG: The KDCA Council of Elders has lodged a report against a Facebook post by one Suara Anak Sabah S.A.S. which insulted the Christian community and Keningau Oath Stone.

KDCA Council of Elders Chairman Datuk Stephen Sondoh said the culprit showed disrespect for Christians in Sabah to the extent of asking them to leave the State.

He said the culprit openly defied the Agong who called for unity and harmony among the multiracial community of Malaysia in the wake of recent incidents in the peninsula.

“The person also belittled the historical Keningau Batu Sumpah or Keningau Oath Stone by calling it a pagan stone and for its destruction,” he said, when met after lodging the report at the Penampang police station, Wednesday.

The Council wants the police to leave no stone unturned until the perpetrator is brought to justice and for it be a lesson for others who try to stir disunity in the State.

“An anonymous identity can still be traced and we urge the police to bring him or her to justice,” he said.

Stephen said the Keningau Oath Stone was not a pagan stone but a monument connected to the formation of Malaysia in 1963.

“It is a significant historical event in Sabah and in Malaysia,” he said. Etched on the stone are three requirements that the Federal Government had to fulfil, i.e. pledge to honour freedom of religion in Sabah; respect native adat and for lands to be under State jurisdiction. These formed the three main features of the 20 Points safeguards that facilitated the formation.

In return, the natives of Sabah’s Interior who were opposed to the formation of Malaysia, would pledge loyalty to the Government of Malaysia.

“The stone serves as a symbol of the promises made by both parties to protect the rights, autonomy, and special privileges of the indigenous peoples within the framework of the Malaysian federation.

“The post made by this person is provocative and could threaten peace and security,” he said.

Present were Advisor KDCA Council of Elders, Dr Benidict Topin,  KDCA Council of Elders Secretary James Sitawin, treasurer OKK Edna Majimbun and members Datuk Steven Beliku and OKK Kumin Gabpai.
