Kota Kinabalu: Claiming that the traffic jam situation along the Tanjung Aru beach area has worsened, Parti Warisan urged the GRS government to devise and implement a comprehensive plan to address the issue.

“The traffic jam at Tanjung Aru Beach has reached a new peak, drawing public outcry,” its vice-president Datuk Junz Wong said.

Given the allegation, he questioned the GRS government’s inaction and lack of effective solutions to the issue.

Tanjung Aru, known for its scenic beaches and popular tourist attractions, including the Kinabalu Golf Club, Yatch Club and Shangrila-Tanjung Aru Resort, has seen a marked increase in traffic congestion.

The cause, as highlighted by Junz is the influx of both tourists and locals flocking to the area for recreation.

According to him, the situation is aggravated by rampant double parking along the critical two-way road servicing these major destinations.

“I’ve raised this issue previously, but no action has been taken by the government until today,” he said.

He suggested the creation of an alternative route system with a clear ‘one way in, one way out’ road to effectively manage the traffic flow.

Additionally, he emphasised the need for constant monitoring and enforcement by relevant authorities to penalize and deter inconsiderate parking behaviors that contribute significantly to the congestion.

This situation at Tanjung Aru is more than a mere inconvenience, it reflects deeper issues of urban planning and governmental responsiveness, he said.

“Ignoring is definitely not the way,” said Wong.
