Kota Kinabalu: Some 100 participants took part in the inaugural D’Westssea Thunder Exercise 2024, recently.

The participants were from various security forces and government agencies, such as the National Security Council (NSC), Chief Minister’s Department, Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), and six Petronas subsidiaries.

The exercise ran for two days, starting Feb 21.

Sabah NSC Director Datuk Noor Alam Khan A Wahid Khan said the exercise was conducted to test and coordinate the emergency response plan (ERP) for officers and staff of Sabah NSC, security and enforcement agencies, and Petronas through guided tutorial exercises.

“The main objective is to help guide and train staff in the control room and Petronas’ staff in offshore oil rigs during emergencies or crises,” he said when officiating the workshop closing here Thursday.

“Aside from that, the exercise also trained rigs’ security personnel, in terms of efficient information delivery system so that it is aligned with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of security and related agencies in Sabah.”

He said Sabah was chosen as the exercise location as there are many Petronas oil rigs, especially on the West Coast, aside from the need for stakeholders to streamline their respective procedures during crises.

Also present were Petronas Group Acting Security Chief Mohd Noor Ahmad and NSC National Operation Management Centre Director Tarmizi Dan.
