Kota Kinabalu: The Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag, who is also President of the Pertubuhan Muafakat Titipan Amal Isteri Wakil Rakyat, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (Mutiara GRS)  joined 100 orphans and asnaf (underprivileged) to shopping in the Shopping Raya Programme at Servay Hypermarket Likas, here, Tuesday.

The Shopping Raya Programme with Orphans and Asnaf was jointly organised by the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Wanita movement and Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC).

The orphans and asnaf, aged 12 and below from the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency, each received RM200 worth of Raya clothes.

Speaking to reporters at the event, Juliah expressed her appreciation to the Gagasan Rakyat Wanita movement and KTC for organising the very meaningful programme bringing cheer and joy to the orphans and asnaf ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

She urged more government-related companies (GLCs), private companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and able individuals to come forward to help the less fortunate who need attention and protection.

She said the GLCs and NGOs need to play a proactive role in organising and implementing their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.

“The charity programmes and activities as well as various types of assistance given to the needy can encourage and increase good practices in the month of Ramadan,” she said.

Juliah also advised parents to constantly monitor the condition and health of their children during the current hot and dry spell.

“They also need to avoid playing with fireworks that can cause unwanted accidents such as injury and also fire hazards.

“To the families and individuals who will return to the village to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, drive courteously, be careful and always prioritise safety on the road,” she said.

Also present were Gagasan Rakyat Wanita Chief Datuk Redonah Bahanda, KTC Executive Director Datuk Dexter Lau and his wife Datin Yee Tsai Siew, Gagasan Rakyat Secretary-General Datuk Mohamed Razali Mohamed Razi, Sabah Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) Director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang as well as leaders and members of Mutiara GRS.
