Lumadan rep aims to register 100 self-employed with Socso
Ruslan said he would work with Socso by holding a joint programme to give awareness to the community about the benefits of SKSPS.
BEAUFORT: Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam is targeting to register 100 self-employed people (OBS) with the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said it is to ensure that the self-employed benefit under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS).

He said the government would fund 90 per cent of the contributions under the scheme while the remaining 10 per cent about RM209.50 per year, by himself.

“I am targeting 100 people (OBS) this year to ensure they benefit from protection under the SKSPS whose contributions are fully funded by the government and myself.

“Without the help of the government and elected representatives, those who want to contribute to this SKSPS will have to pay RM209.50 a year to get protection for one year.

“Thus, many people are still not aware of this scheme and its benefits, especially if there is an accident while working,” he said at the Lumadan Assemblyman’s Visit Program here.

Ruslan said he would work with Socso by holding a joint programme to give awareness to the community about the benefits of SKSPS.

At the same time, he said, he would also register the less fortunate such as single mothers, the elderly, the disabled and the poor to receive Socso assistance.

“It will be implemented through a visit programme with Socso to the homes of the people involved and at the same time we will also organise an SKSPS registration programme,” he said.

Through the 2024 Budget, the government allocated RM100 million for the SKSPS Contribution Matching Grants which benefit 500,000 self-employed individuals, with the contribution incentive, as much as 90 per cent, borne by the government.

The initiative can ease the burden on contributors by only paying the remaining 10 per cent which is RM23.30 for protection for 365 days.
