SIPITANG: People in the district should take advantage of the economic opportunities following the rapid development, especially at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip), said Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

He said Sipitang also shares the borders with Sarawak and Brunei, which makes it a stopover district for people travelling to and fro the neighbouring State and country.

“Look for opportunities to do business to strengthen individual and household economy. More people are visiting Sipitang, including those who will live and work in the district,” he said when officiating the opening of a petrol station, here, recently.

Dr Yusof, who is also Chairman of the Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, said as many as 30,000 people will be working in Sipitang following the development of Sogip, which will undoubtedly increase the demand for especially food such as vegetables, fruits, fish and meat, among others.

He also suggested the construction of rental houses to meet the needs of the workers later.

Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah, who was also present, said the opening of business premises such as petrol stations could help provide jobs to the youth, especially those from the B40 group.

Also present were District Police Chief DSP Mail Sandungi, Sipitang Upko Division Chief Datuk Pengiran Lalong, MCA leader Datuk Su Shee Teng, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Division Chief Pius Ganang, Sipitang Amanah Division Chief Hashim Diris, Sindumin Community Development Leader (PPM) Wendy Agong Baruh, community leaders and heads of state and federal departments.
