Tuaran: The Sabah Cancer Volunteer Association (PSKS) is encouraged to continue intensifying awareness programmes related to cancer so that more people are aware of the disease in the State.
The Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Datuk Juliah Salag said early awareness of the disease could help one to take preventative measures immediately.

She commended the association for taking the initiative to run the World Cancer Day Programme every year.
“Cancer is the second largest cause of death in the world. Therefore, early detection can give patients the best chance to recover.
“With various types of cancer such as breast and lung cancer, I hope the association will continue to intensify programmes like this, not only in the city but even in the interior,” she said, when officiating the World Cancer Day 2024 celebration at Padang Tuaran Pavilion, here, Sunday.
Juliah said PSKS’ efforts to conduct the programme since 2017 on every Feb 4 were greatly appreciated as it helped to raise crucial awareness and highlight the importance for cancer treatment to be accessible in line with the theme “Close the Care Gap”.

She also praised the association’s efforts to care for the welfare of cancer patients.
“This includes providing accommodation for cancer patients at the PSKS in Kingfisher Likas, lending equipment such as oxygen machines, wheelchairs, hospital beds and donating special milk to cancer patients in need.

“Efforts like these can help cancer patients who cannot afford it. Therefore, I call for more parties including individuals and the private sector to come forward to help PSKS’ effort,” he said.
