One-stop centre to fill vacancies urged
Dr Yusof, who is also Chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, said he is disappointed at the predetermined labour recruitment that does not favour locals.
Kota Kinabalu: Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob proposed the State establish a one-stop centre to handle industry-based job opportunities.

He said the youths had expressed their disappointment because there is already a labour supply which recruits outside workers for employment in Sindumin, especially in the Sipitang district.

“I discovered that this ‘labour supply’ is not fabricated whereby it hires outsiders, thus excluding local people, especially those in Sindumin,” he said.

“The labour supplier has been in direct contact with the investor in question so job opportunities will be controlled by outsiders. Despite many positions offered, local people will not have the opportunity to fill them.

“We have investors who will invest a total of RM11 billion in the upcoming developments in Sogit and Samur which will open job opportunities,” he said.

Dr Yusof, who is also Chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, said he is disappointed at the predetermined labour recruitment that does not favour locals.

“For example, Sabah, according to our research, needs many doctors as well as other Federal and State positions.

“The provision of jobs should not be left to labour supply alone. Therefore, it is necessary for the Government to create a one-stop centre to manage so Sabahans are not left behind.”

Meanwhile, Umno Sipitang Division Chief Abd Rahman Matnoh said the Government hoped to establish a secretariat or acting body through the Human Resource Department to control and coordinate this matter.

“The source of local labour needs to have a database and which one is appropriate and suitable for the needs of the external company and it must be a priority,” he said.

Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Sipitang Division Chief Pius Ganang said as a leader in Sindumin, he fully supports what was voiced in the recent State Assembly session.

“Don’t rule out job opportunities for the youths in Sipitang and don’t let the issue of employment be monopolised by people from outside,” he said.

Sipitang People’s Justice Party Branch Chief Wendy Agong Baruh said she strongly agreed with Dr Yusof.

“It is a huge loss for Sabah in general, especially Sipitang, when there are job opportunities but the rights of the people of Sabah are set aside especially in Sindumin.

The people of Sipitang do not benefit from job opportunities if they are unjustly controlled.

Wendy Agong said she is confident that the parties or agencies involved have the means to solve the issue as Sabah’s poverty rates are still high,” she said.
