Get ready for influx of Chinese tourists: LDP
Ong said the Ministry had stated that many tourists from China play a big role in supporting Sabah’s tourism industry, so attracting more Chinese tourists would be crucial for reviving this important sector for the State’s economy post-pandemic.
Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Vice President David Ong has called for the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry to ensure Sabah’s readiness for Chinese tourists during the Chinese New Year holidays.

He said the Ministry is making good efforts to prepare for an expected increase in tourists from China during the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday period.

“We commend the proactive steps taken by the Ministry to boost flight capacity and ensure adequate hotel rooms to meet higher demand. By working closely with airlines, hotels and other tourism partners, they are getting Sabah ready to welcome more visitors after the Covid-19 disruptions.

“However, we suggest that the Ministry also focus on engaging the food and beverage stakeholders such as coffee shop and restaurant associations. Many eateries may be closed during the festive period. Ensuring adequate dining options are available will be important to serve arrivals, or it could hamper tourism recovery efforts,” he said in a statement.

Ong said the Ministry had stated that many tourists from China play a big role in supporting Sabah’s tourism industry, so attracting more Chinese tourists would be crucial for reviving this important sector for the State’s economy post-pandemic.

“The tourism industry in the Chinese market represents a big opportunity that could stimulate growth in Sabah’s tourism sector. We are hopeful the efforts underway will translate into tangible outcomes.

“Sabah has much to offer visitors, thanks to its incredible nature, diverse cultures and warm hospitality. By making sure Chinese tourists have pleasant and quality experiences, more of them would be motivated to come back after having a great time. This can help Sabah become popular again as the top place for Chinese travellers who want to explore Borneo’s rich cultural and natural wonders,” he said.
