Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the State Government has always shown great concern for the development of Chinese education in Sabah.

"Since assuming office as Chief Minister, the State Government has increased funding for Chinese schools annually, including allocation for the maintenance of Independent Chinese Schools," he said.

“Funding for non-Muslim religious bodies, mission schools, national type and private schools saw the amount increased to about RM57 million this year,” he said during a courtesy call by a Kian Kok Middle School delegation led by its Board of Directors Chairman, Datuk Clement Yeh, at the State Legislative Assembly building, Tuesday.

Also present were Deputy Chairman Datuk Mary Ling Nga Ming, 1st Vice Chairman Edwin Koh Tze Eak and Principal Goh Teck Seng.

Hajiji said Sabah’s Chinese Independent Schools also play an important role in nurturing talent for the nation and shoulder the critical responsibility of talent cultivation for the State Government.

The courtesy call was in conjunction with Kian Kok’s 60th Anniversary Fundraising Dinner on Saturday (April 27) at Port View Palace Hall, Likas, here.

More than 1,000 guests would be present to celebrate the school’s milestone and illustrious achievements.

Hajiji would be Guest of Honour at the event.

Clement said the Chief Minister had shown great concern for the development of Chinese education in Sabah and Kian Kok is grateful for the annual increase in allocation.

He said Kian Kok placed importance on the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for high school students and actively promotes trilingual education.

“Furthermore, in line with the Education Ministry’s curriculum, Kian Kok is committed to preparing students for the Malaysian Education Certificate (SPM), allowing students to study in a trilingual environment.

This initiative aims to give students broader development opportunities, enabling them to navigate more challenging societal landscapes effortlessly,” he said.
