STATE Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said the Ministry does not have a specific solution to help young people find jobs quickly.

“This is because my Ministry is not a job placement agency,” he said in response to a question from Kemabong Assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang at the State Assembly sitting, Tuesday.

However, he said the Ministry is taking steps to support youths in employment.

The Ministry has partnered with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to encourage young job seekers to register with Socso’s MyFutureJobs.

In Sabah, there are currently 15,484 registered job seekers and 26,250 active job vacancies as of March this year.

The Ministry also hopes that those who have registered will find suitable jobs promptly.

Aside from that, the Ministry also organises short-term and long-term skill courses based on home-based activities such as creative sewing, hospitality courses, basic childcare and early childhood education courses, automotive technology courses and many more.

“After completing these courses, participants can become entrepreneurs or work in sectors that are relevant to the skills they have acquired.

“So far, many participants have successfully found employment.”

The Ministry, he said, is not alone in planning to boost the economy of the community, including youths.

“I believe several ministries and government or private agencies have long-term plans to improve the economy of the people, whether through subsidies, financial loans, business grants and so on.

“At the Ministry level, the plan is to focus on increasing the income of young people through entrepreneurship and generating innovation and creativity.

“To ensure that this plan is achieved, the Ministry has implemented special training and entrepreneurship programmes for young people and provided suitable platforms for generating innovation and creativity among them.

“Youth innovation and creativity can be transformed after participating in training programmes such as creative arts and sewing, mobile phone repairs and more,” he said.
