Nabawan vs Keningau final today

Kota Kinabalu: It will be an all upper interior affair as Nabawan and Keningau won their way through to the grand finale of the 2023 Safa (Sabah Football Association) Cup competition on Saturday.
They qualified for the final in contrasting fashion. Upper interior zone champion Nabawan who was the first team to make the semi-final after winning their first two group matches on Friday thrashed west coast zone champion Putatan 4-1 at Sukma field B while Keningau managed to book their place in the final after an extra time 2-1 win over Kota Marudu in the other semi-final played at field B.

The hard fought win also gave Keningau the opportunity to avenge their 0-2 loss to Nabawan in the zone competition held in Keningau earlier.
The grand final started on Friday featured 12 teams that have finished in the top two positions in their respective zone competition held on January 12 which saw the participation of 21 teams with more than 500 players.
They were divided into four groups. Nambawan, Putatan and Keningau won all their matches to top their respective groups with the maximum six points while Kota Marudu only scraped through to the last four with better goal difference in their group.
The final will be held this afternoon (Sunday) at the Likas Stadium starting at 4pm preceded by the playoff for third and fourth place between Kota Marudu and Putatan at 2pm.

Meanwhile, the tournament with a total cash prize of RM40,000 is initiated by The local competition committee led by Safa vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ruddy Awah.
The goal is to unearth new talent by a panel of experienced coaches and those selected will be absorbed into the Sabah FC teams to compete in the coming MFL Cup, President’s Cup and Youth Cup this season.
