39 lion dance groups in Sandakan get aid 
According to George, the eye dotting ceremony is customary among the Tiong Hua community in Sabah ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration. 
SANDAKAN: A total of 39 lion dance associations in Sandakan received donations of lion heads in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2024. 

The donation from the State Government was presented by Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin during the lion’s head handover ceremony cum eye dotting ceremony held at the Pertubuhan Pendidikan Akhlak Che Siang Khor in Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, here, Sunday. 

Present were Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek, Jetama Water Sdn Bhd Chairman Liau Fui Fui, former Elopura Assemblyman Datuk Au Kam Wah, former Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk Charles Pang and Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, among others. 

According to George, the eye dotting ceremony is customary among the Tiong Hua community in Sabah ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration. 

“We express our gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for donating the lion head to all 39 lion associations in Sandakan this year,” he said. 

“This shows that Hajiji’s leadership is very caring and loving to every community. This is also a symbol of the harmony that has been established over the years,” he added.
