Kota Kinabalu: Young entrepreneurs are urged to partner with the State Government in restructuring Sabah’s economy so that their ideas and contributions can help it grow into a RM10 billion-plus revenue earner.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said there is still so much to do for Sabah and hoped they would rise up to the occasion.

“I want you, as members of the Sabah Young Business and Industry Leaders (Sybil) to be our partners in progress to realise our development agenda for the benefit of Sabah and her people,” Hajiji told some 100 participants in the Sabah Young Business & Industry Leaders Network (Sybil) engagement with the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) at Menara Kinabalu, Wednesday.

SEAC is helping the Sabah Government to formulate progressive economic and transformative policies.

Hajiji said he is heartened to see such enthusiasm and lauded SEAC’s initiative to kickstart and provide a voice to the young people from business and industry.

He said since taking over as Chief Minister in September 2020, the State Government did not waste time restructuring Sabah’s economy.

“We have set a bold target to develop Sabah over a five-year period from2021 as reflected in our Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan. To date, we have recorded more than RM12 billion in investments across 90 projects, promising to generate thousands of jobs.

“Last week, I announced the RM20 billion green steel project. Phase One of the project will commence at the end of this year and be completed in 2026, promising 2,795 job opportunities during its operational phase,’ Hajiji said.

He said the State is expecting more investments due to friendly policies that have made the State conducive for investors.

He said he is positioning these investments as the solid foundation for young Sabahans to build their future.
