Sabah make clean sweep

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah made a clean sweep in the graded division of the 45th National Tenpin Bowling Championship which concluded at the Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid in Selangor on Thursday.

Sushanor Sihanor with 1,674 pin falls clinched the men’s title ahead of second placed Mohd Adam Darwish (1,630) from Penang and Mohd Fadli Ramli (1,603) from Negeri Sembilan coming in third.

The women’s title went to Siti Nurafiqah Satal who also had a comfortable victory after dropping 1,598 pins followed by Perak’s Nor Baitul Ayu (1,557) and Nur Edryana (1,525) of Selangor.

Both winners expressed their gratitude to Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association (STBA), Sabah Sports Council, coaches, family members and teammates for their support throughout the years.

22-year-old Siti, who is a student of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, said it was her first podium finish and happy to lead from the start to claim her maiden title.

“It was the correct strategy that allowed both Sushanor and Siti to lead from the beginning until the end,” said team manager Ag Sharil Karim.

STBA president Rozzainnysham Talip added that it was a historic feat by the two bowlers to win both titles in the category.

“It has never happen before for Sabahan bowlers to dominate the men’s and women’s categories.

“Credit to Sushanor and Siti Nurafiqah for their abilities to make quick adjustments to overcome the difficult lanes and maintained their consistency until the end of round eight.

“Congratulations also to Jamlidin Manap Senior who finished in fourth place in the senior masters category ahead of 68 other competitors.

“I hope our athletes will maintain their momentum for the coming Milo-NSC-MTBC Grand Final at the end of this month and the Penang International Open next month,” he said.
