Ex-NRD Assistant Registrar for trial
Kota Kinabalu: A 53-year-old assistant registrar of the National Registration Department (NRD), charged with making a fake identification card, will go trial on April 20-22 this year.

Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat fixed the date for Safiah Alijang when her case was brought up for case management.

Safiah is accused of making the fake document bearing the serial number 991207-12-5135 under the name Muhamad Daniel Hafiez bin Arif @ Jali at 3.05pm on May 22, 2013 at the NRD Pitas branch.

The offence, under Section 463/465 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Safiah is currently released on a bail of RM6,000 with RM4,000 deposited in a local surety.

Safiah was also ordered to report to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s office once in two months as well as her passport, if any, to be kept by the court until the disposal of her                case.

Prosecuting Officer (PO) Mohd Faliq Basiruddin from MACC appeared for the prosecution while counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin defended Safiah.

Meanwhile, the court set April 20 for the final pre-trial case management on the case involving a 32-year-old man charged with three counts of using fake documents.

The date was given to Mohammad Nazrul Nordin during his case management.

During the proceedings, PO Clement Severinus from MACC informed the court that the prosecution had tendered the documents to the defence and  counsel Azhief who also represented Mohammad Nazrul, confirmed the matter. On the first to third counts, Mohammad Nazrul allegedly used the three bank statements dated July 31, Aug 31 and Sept 30 in 2016 under the name of Meraih Hidayah for the purpose to obtain the tender for supplying cooked food to hostels and schools.

The offence allegedly took place at the State Education Department, here, on Nov 24, 2016.
