Gold waste: Exec claims trial

TAWAU: An Assistant General Manager of a company was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, Tuesday, on four counts of misusing company property, namely gold concentrate waste, between 2020 and last December 2022.
Brando Pang Tze Chiang, 49, pleaded not guilty to all the charges separately before Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin and Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.

On the first count, Brando fraudulently used the waste gold concentrate belonging to Wullersdoff Resources Sdn Bhd (WRSB) at Lombong Bukit Mantri, Balung in early 2020.
On the second count, the accused committed fraud at the same location in October 2021.
Meanwhile, on the third and fourth counts he also committed fraud at the same location in May 2022 and December 2022, respectively.
Magistrate Dayang Aidaku set bail at RM2,500 for each of the first and second charges and in two local sureties.

Magistrate Don set a bail of RM5, 000 for each of the third and fourth charges.
The total amount of bail is RM15,000 for all four charges.

The court then set May 14, 2024 as the date for re-mention of the case.
He was accused of committing the offence under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between six months and five years, whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Syahnidzam Ahmad offered bail of RM10,000 for each charge.
However, the counsel representing the accused requested reduction of bail as the Brando is economically hard and he has an autistic son and faces the risk of losing his job at the company.
