‘Don’t query PM transition’
BEAUFORT: Leaders at all levels should support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister instead of questioning the timetable for his handover of power as he is capable of bringing the country to greater heights.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) said Malaysia has been chosen to host the 2020 Apec meeting which is a big responsibility for the country and that Dr Mahathir is not just a capable leader but also well-seasoned to showcase what the nation is built on.

He said people should not be questioning his resignation or transition but focus more on matters that would help improve the image of Malaysia which would be a major contribution in the nation’s economy.

“Now what the people want is to see the Federal and State Government working hard to deliver to the people and that should be the priority of the current leadership.

“This year is important for Malaysia because we are going to host the 2020 Apec.

“So all leadership at the cabinet and state level must give our full support to Mahathir to lead and showcase Malaysia as one of those countries that could compete at global level,” he said.

Also present were Beaufort MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, Lumadan Assemblyman Matbali Musah, Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar, Kuala Penyu Assemblyman Datuk Limus Jury and Kawang Assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, among others.

Being the Apec host, Azmin said leaders should set aside any differences to ensure that the people’s wellbeing is guaranteed.

“He (Mahathir) has said on numerous occasion that he will resign at the appropriate time. This is not the time the time to discuss the transition. We should focus on the Malaysian governance for the sake of the people.

“We must remember that after the 14th General Election, the government was formed not only by Pakatan Harapan but also with the participation of Warisan.

“So we must allow a discussion among stakeholders on this matter in the interest of Malaysia. Stability is important to give investors’ the confidence,” he added.

Meanwhile, Azmin said the Federal Government allocated RM4.25billion to the State Government this year for the purpose of development in terms of infrastructure.

Under the leadership of Mahathir, he said six states have been identified that needs large funds and this includes Sabah and Sarawak.

“The allocation of Sabah’s development has been increased to RM4.25billion compared to only RM3billion previously. This is because the PH government knows that Sabah requires a huge amount for development.

“This allocation has nothing to do with the Kimanis by-election because it was approved in  Parliament months ago. Development implementation should be focused as the funds have been provided,” he added.
