Another 35 illegal Sandakan water connections detected

Sandakan: Another 35 illegal water supply connections were discovered by the District Water Department when its two-day operation at targeted locations ended Thursday. It was not known for how long the thefts had been going on except that they would have been incurring the department a huge revenue loss, besides denying paying consumers their right to uninterrupted supply. District Water Engineer Ishar Hamka Ismail said the exercise covered Kg Indah Mile 19, Bandar Check Point Mile 16, Taman Merpati, Tango On Road, Airport Road and the Kg Cahaya Baru squatter colony at Mile 3.

He said the operation was conducted following reports received about water theft in the areas concerned."An investigation conducted with assistance from Salcon Engineering discovered 11 illegal water supply connections at Kg Indah Mile 19 and another at Bandar Check Point. "Another nine were found in Kg Kitagas, Mile 27, which was connected direct to the two-inch steel stand pipe using a 1/2-inch poly pipe," he said, adding one illegal connection each was also discovered at Mile 16 and Taman Merpati, besides four more at Jalan Airport. Another eight illegal connections were found at Kg Setinggan Cahaya Baru, which were connected direct from the main pipe MSCL 100 mm using 1/2-inch poly pipe.
