Kota Kinabalu: Pertubuhan Kebudayaan Kebajikan Murut Malaysia's (PKKMM) President Raymond Ahuar (pic) proposed that the government set up a consulate office in Nunukan, Indonesia. He said this is to facilitate Malaysians who face immigration-related problems, adding that currently the Malaysian Consulate is only available in Pontianak which is too far from Nunukan. He cited an incident involving an underage Murut girl who was arrested by Indonesian authorities in Nunukan for having no valid travel documents to enter the neighbouring country. It was learnt that she was taken across the border by an Indonesian. ADVERTISEMENT A statement issued by the PKKMM here, Tuesday claimed that problems arose during the process of bringing the girl back to her family when Malaysian Consul officers could not come to Nunukan to release the girl due to financial constraints to fund the travel expenses of Malaysian Consulate officers to Nunukan because the allocation has been exhausted and the accounts closed. This caused serious worry to the girl's family who was concerned for the safety of the 15-year-old. The family hoped the Malaysian government would take the matter seriously and act quickly to get their daughter back before Christmas. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
