PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has asked the police to carry out further investigations into Teoh Beng Hock's death nine years ago.Beng Hock's family lawyer Ramkarpal Singh said the AGC made the request to Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun as it believed that such investigations were necessary following the Court of Appeal's findings that other unknown personalities, including MACC officers, were involved in Teoh's death.

"I can confirm that the AGC has written to the IGP on July 17, a copy of which was extended to my firm, requesting for further investigations to be commenced into Beng Hock's death. I am of the view that the above is a positive development in the matter and hope that such investigations reveal those responsible for Beng Hock's death, especially since the Court of Appeal has made a finding that there were others involved," Ramkarpal said in a statement.

He added that he would continue to press the authorities for updates on the matter as justice must be done in Teoh's case.

Last month, the Cabinet gave approval for investigations to be reopened into the death of Beng Hock, who was the political aide to DAP assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Beng Hock was found dead on a rooftop adjacent to the MACC office in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009, a day after being taken in for questioning over allegedly fraudulent disbursements of constituency allocations.

His sister, Teoh Lee Lan, said recently she never imagined the day when she would stand before a crowd, "celebrating" the authorities' decision to reopen her brother's case.

"We hope the coming investigation by the police will be different from the earlier two investigations.

We want the truth. The real perpetrator must be brought to justice," she said.
