Kota Kinabalu: Two local men were jailed 15 years and ordered to be given two strokes of the cane each for robbing another with a knife.Jibar Jak and Jumami Misuari pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, Friday, to the charge against them.

They robbed one Rozaimi Adilon, 21, while armed with a knife, off a tablet and a handphone at 7.05pm on Oct 28, this year at a bus stop in Kg Laut, Kinarut.

They committed the offence under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction, together with another accused who was not present.

The court ordered them to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest.

During mitigation, both of them who were not represented asked for a light sentence, saying they have families to look after and that they regretted their action.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Akmalzatul Mohamed Nawi urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, submitting that such cases were rampant nowadays.

The court heard that Rozaimi was walking at the area with his wife when three unknown men approached, pointed a knife and asked him to surrender his money.

Fearing for their safety, Rozaimi let the trio take his belongings.

Jibar and Jumami were arrested on Oct 31 following a police report lodged by Rozaimi.

Police also recovered the weapon used to commit the crime and items they took from Rozaimi after Jibar revealed where they kept them.

During the identification parade, Rozaimi identified the three men who robbed him. - Cynthia D Baga
