Labuan: Umno Chairman here Datuk Rozman Isli described as a joke in "bad taste" a notice widely shared on messages applications such as WhatsApp that the party is sponsoring free roti canai at nine Mamak restaurants here.Rozman who is also Member of Parliament said a police report would be lodged as the message was not only fake but confusing and could lead to unnecessary misunderstanding between the outlet operators and those patronising the shop expecting a free meal.

"Umno never made such an offer. In the first place, it is an insulting offer because roti canai cost merely RM1.50 and is affordable. The message was to ridicule the party and put in bad light," he said.

Wednesday being Deepawali a Hindu festival, many thought the offer could be true and was in conjunction with the festival, only to be embarrassed later.

Rozman said the party would not use a messenger service to circulate information and that those receiving such a message should have suspected something was amiss.

Rozman earlier visited the Deepawali Open House of two local Indian leaders, Chairman of Labuan Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Datuk Dahlif Singh and Chairman of Labuan MIC Datuk Ramasamy Rengasamy. He was accompanied by deputy chairman Datuk Bashir Alias former senator Datuk Haji Yunus Kurus, Umno Youth Chairman Datuk Mohd Rafi Alli Hassan and others.
