Sabah Umno finished if Bung stays on: G57
Zahid, Bung and Zulkarnain
Kota Kinabalu: Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar rubbished Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s claim that the party will again rise to power in Sabah as nothing more than wishful thinking and ear-pleaser.

“It’s not wrong to wish, but looking at the current and future situation, only keeping spirits high cannot be used as capital for Umno to overthrow GRS and PH in Sabah,” Zulkarnain said in response to Zahid Hamidi’s statement during Umno Putatan’s Division Meeting and Hari Raya Aidilfitri Dinner on Saturday.

“The truth that Zahid and the ranks of Umno Supreme Council Members need to accept is that as long as Datuk Seri Bung Moktar is still leading Umno in Sabah and intertwined with Parti Warisan Sabah, the statement is just rhetoric and too good to be true,” he said in a statement.

He said the party was destroyed by Bung who made the mistake of masterminding the coup against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Nor on January 5, 2023 with Parti Warisan Sabah.

“This is the cause of Umno’s split in Sabah. I’m also a little surprised at how Zahid can claim Umno can rule Sabah with a small number.

“In fact there is a study from an independent body and a political analyst that there are only two or three safe seats for Sabah Umno.

“If the joint planning with Warisan is used as one of the formulas to recapture Sabah, Umno is clearly on the wrong foot.

“Parti Warisan has been totally rejected in Sabah evident in the 15th General Election. They won only three seats after contesting 25 seats in Sabah.

“Upko, for example, was almost paralysed when it was with Parti Warisan. Even in the 16th General Elections they only won one seat. Fortunately the leadership got wise and immediately ceased cooperating with Warisan.

“Datuk Shafie Apdal (Warisan President) is aware of this situation which is why Umno through Bung Moktar has been used to boost the momentum of the people’s support for Warisan.

“The people of Sabah actually totally rejected Warisan after their bad 26 month record,” he said.

Zulkarnain said Warisan failed to bring in even a single foreign investor to Sabah, the GDP rate fell to 0.5 per cent.

“The issue of Sempornafication, the proposed settlement of an island for illegal Filipino immigrants and many more left the people horrified about re-electing Warisan.

“This momentum of rejection by the people of Sabah is expected to continue until the upcoming elections,” he said.
