Mechanic jailed 10 years on three counts of offences

Kota Kinabalu: A local mechanic was jailed 10 years and 20 months on three counts of having stolen items, having dangerous weapon in public and taking drugs for the third time.Masrinhy Masazing, 35, admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to committing the offences this year.He was sentenced to five years' jail for illegally having a keris at 10.30am on July 21 in a car at Jalan Karamunsing B, Sadong Jaya, here.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that Masrinhy was detained by police, who found the weapon kept in between his thighs while in the driver's seat.Masrinhy confessed to have bought the keris at the weekly tamu in Gaya street for self-defence purposes.The offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958 carries a jail term of between five years and 10 years on conviction.On the second count, Masrinhy was handed 20 months' jail for having various stolen audio equipment.

He pleaded guilty to having the stolen items belonging to one Tong Heng Ka in a house at Jalan Bukit Keramat at 9.30pm on June 28.Masrinhy was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.

On the third count, Masrinhy was jailed five years and ordered to be caned twice for taking syabu for the third time.He was tested positive for drugs on July 21.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Masrinhy committed an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act read with Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between five years and seven years and whipping of not more than three strokes.The court ordered Masrinhy to serve the jail term on the second and third counts concurrently with sentence on the first count. - Jo Ann Mool
