Fisherman is killed and 3 others hurt at sea
Beaufort: Tragedy struck four members of a fishing vessel, Tuesday, when a steel bar fell and claimed the life of a 25-year-old while leaving two others badly injured and the fourth slightly near Pulau Tiga. Police identified the deceased as La Buada, an Indonesian who worked as fishing vessel crew.

It was drizzling when the vessel arrived at Safma Port in Kota Kinabalu at about 9.45am where the family members of the victim were waiting for the body.

Two men believed to be the brothers of the deceased were devastated upon their brother's arrival.

According to one of the brothers, he last saw the victim three days ago before the deceased and other crew members set sail to Pulau Tiga to carry out their normal fishing routine.

Paramedics from Queen Hospital Elizabeth were at the port to receive the body where they announced that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

It was believed that the steel bar which was part of the ship used as an arm with one end equipped with a pulley broke when the victim and the crew members were pulling up the net.

District Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said at about 6am, the captain of the fishing vessel, who was slightly injured, informed the owner of the ship.

Azmir said the victims and injured arrived Kota Kinabalu, the two crew members who were badly injured were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Two while the deceased was brought to Queen Elizabeth Kota Kinabalu for post mortem.
