SANDAKAN: A total of 23 remedial students, accompanied by 10 teachers, 10 committee members and two guidance officers, took part in an educational visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) in Sepilok, Batu 14, recently.
The programme was organised by the Sandakan District Education Office (PPD) in collaboration with the Sandakan Special Remedial Teachers Council.
Deputy Sandakan PPD Officer (Learning Sector) Suhaimi Othman said the programme was aimed at helping students improve literacy and numeracy skills in line with the Ministry of Education’s direction.
He said the initiative also seeks to strengthen students’ interest in learning while reinforcing basic literacy and numeracy competencies.
Suhaimi said direct observation at the centre allowed students to learn about the uniqueness of sun bears while incorporating literacy and numeracy elements through activities.
“Discussions among students also helped enhance communication, collaboration and critical thinking skills,” he said.
